The band Queenie originated in Prague, founded in February 2006 by a bunch of young students. Initially based purely on their enthusiasm, the project kept getting more and more refined over the time, and after years of joint work Queenie has become the undeniably most successful Queen tribute band in the Czech Republic and one of the best Queen tribute bands worldwide. Accurate live rendition of the world rock legend’s work with original arrangements and tunes, absolute technical precision, visual similarity and perfectionism — all the above defines Queenie and is the reason for its wide recognition by professional critics, as well as for the numerous awards received by the band. The first phase of the project was determined by the realization that the band's genre is primarily theater, or rather „concert theater“, where each member in his specific role represents the work of another artist. Music authenticity and live performance were the basic concepts on which each of them based his approach to the project.
The frontman and founding member of the band, graduate of TOWEN Musical Studio, Michael Kluch has established himself on the musical theater scene and can be seen in the main roles not only in Prague theaters. One of his most famous roles is that of the starring actor in the musical Touha by Mirjam and Daniel Landa. Another key member of the band is the bassist, or rather the multi-instrumentalist, Martin Binhack, who, along with the guitarist Rudy Neumann, founder of the famous Czech band Dymytry, is one of the best players in the field. He has been a core member of Queenie for many years. The drums are mastered by a graduate of Jaroslav Jezek Conservatory, teacher and company player of the #1 world brand of cymbals Zildjian, Petr "Bali" Baláš, who is also the founder of LOLA band, with which he won i.a. the Mercedes Benz Live Space Show and the Real League contest. Another member of band is a seasoned musician, keyboardist Michal David, who during his career has accompanied various stars of of the Czech music scene, such as Václav Neckář, Kamil Střihavka, Matěj Ruppert and many others. The bands in which he has worked worth mentioning include Dalibor Janda's Prototype, SLS (Lešek Semelka Group) and Mefisto (Josef Laufer, Viktor Sodoma) – of the latter he is still a member. The entire band is supported and highlighted by the sound engineer Martin Med, who has cooperated with prominent Prague clubs (Rock Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, Chapeau Rouge, Matrix, etc.) and used to be the sound engineer at the Theater Pod Palmovkou. He has participated in arranging concerts of world-known bands, such as Faith No More, KISS, The Smashing Pumpkins, Uriah Heep, Alice Cooper, etc, and was involved in sound engineering for the visit of Pope John Paul II. in the Czech Republic.
Queenie has had hundreds of shows across two continents and has been a successful participant in several TV talent contests and other competitions. The band has often taken part in programmes and reports broadcast by the three largest Czech television stations (Czech Television, TV Nova, FTV Prima). The band highly values the fact of having been invited to Queen Elizabeth II's official birthday celebration, where Queenie's show became the highlight of the evening; for the band members it is a great sign of appreciation of their work. Queenie members also take special pride in having been invited by Peter Freestone — Freddie Mercury's secretary — to one of the biggest Queen fan gatherings, the Freddie Mercury Memorial Day in Montreux, Switzerland. In 2008, Queenie became the first Czech performer to play there as the main band of the night. In 2017, the band returned there, once again as the headliner at the Freddie For a Day festival held under the auspices of the Mercury Phoenix Trust charity. The band members support charitable purposes and several times a year they arrange charity concerts promoting and contributing to the fight against HIV/AIDS. During its career, Queenie has played shows at almost all major Czech performance halls (Lucerna, Žofín, National Theater, Municipal House, as well as Rondo Hall, Ostravar Arena and O2 Arena). The band has made performances for the largest multinational companies as well (be it insurance companies, banks or, for example, Microsoft and Coca Cola). Queenie has also created a full evening program combining elements of a rock concert with orchestral performance of Queen songs, on which the band has cooperated with leading sopranos and symphonic musicians. The top concept of their concerts the band called the "Queen RELIVED show" and in April 2018 they introduced a new musical named Freddie (directed by Karel Janák) in the Radek Brzobohatý's Theater in Prague with Queenie in the main role.
The band enjoys great popularity among its fans, which is demonstrated i.a. by numerous sold out concerts (SONO Center in Brno, Great Theater of J. K. Tyl in Pilsen, Kalich Theater in Prague and others). Queenie has had similar success abroad too, where the band sells out prominent halls, such as Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona (a famous concert hall on the UNESCO World Heritage List), Tyrol Club in Stockholm (where, among others, Tom Jones performed) or the famous Uppsala University's Aula (where, 46 years after Led Zeppelin, Queenie was the first rock band to have a show). The band is in particularly high demand in the Scandinavian countries, where it departs on concert tours several times a year.
